Supporting Hope Not Hate in Durham
HELEN GOODMAN MP
PRESS RELEASE
08 February 2008
** For immediate release**
Helen Goodman, Member of Parliament for Bishop Auckland, is supporting the Hope Not Hate Conference at Durham Cricket Ground on Saturday 9th February.
The conference, organised by the TUC and supported by Labour Friends of Searchlight, aims to bring together the local community in opposition to the far right BNP, who have become increasingly prominent in the Spennymoor and Shildon area.
The conference will include speeches by fellow Labour MPs Jon Cruddas and Phil Wilson, as well as local Trade Unions and anti-racism groups.
Helen said:
“The strength of our local communities stem from our shared values and heritage.
I believe the BNP is poisoning the local atmosphere and that everyone who believes in equality and democratic dialogue must come together to counter this threat.
“Racism has no place in our local community, and events like ‘Hope Not Hate’ are a great way to bring people together in a common cause”.
