QUALITY CHILDCARE FOR EVERY FAMILY
Helen has been appointed to the Commons committee considering the new Childcare Bill.
She said, “I believe there should be a high quality pre-school childcare place available for every child.
“Under this new Bill, local councils will become strategic leaders in childcare and work with both public bodies and private companies to create high quality childcare that reflects the needs of local families. I am also pleased that the Bill has reducing inequalities amongst children as its main aim.

Speaking in the House of Commons during a debate on the new policy, Helen praised the local impact of the Sure Start scheme:
“The Sure Start scheme has had a very positive impact in my constituency. We have a Sure Start programme at St. Helen Auckland with new facilities, and another on the Woodhouse Close estate.
“There are a lot of villages in Teesdale, and the rural area has mobile provision, with a fantastic bus that goes round to ensure that families who are isolated in villages also have access to services.”
