Helen is organising a free event to help pensioners reduce the cost of utility bills and claim the benefits they are entitled to.
The event will take place at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Friday 6th November, from 10am to 2pm.
Leading energy efficiency provider eaga is supporting the event, and Age Concern, BT, Durham County Council, the Energy Saving Trust, and a range of voluntary groups will all in attendance, with advisors on hand to offer confidential, expert help.
The event is free to attend, you do not need to RSVP, and there will also be refreshments and a prize draw.
Helen said:
“I think this is a really important event, and one that will hopefully help as many pensioners as possible.
7,000 of my constituents already receive Pension Credit, and 20,000 benefit from the Winter Fuel Allowance, but the biggest single reason that some pensioners are still living in poverty is that they do not know, or do not claim, the benefits they are entitled to.
I hope we can go some way to rectifying this at the Pensioners’ Fair and to help people cope with their utility bills over the winter months”.
