MPs thoughts with Electrolux workers

Helen Goodman, MP for Bishop Auckland, has spoken in the House of Commons of her ‘great disappointment’ at the closure of the Electrolux factory at Spennymoor.
Speaking in her capacity as Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, Helen saved the final word of the Christmas Adjournment debate for the Electrolux workforce.
Helen said:
“Unfortunately, [it was announced] last Friday that 500 of my constituents will lose their jobs because the Electrolux factory [is to be] closed.
That is obviously a matter of great disappointment and I will be thinking about them over the Christmas holiday.
I hope that people will be able to get new jobs. The closure programme is phased over some time, and there is a partnership of the County Durham Development Company, the local skills councils and the local authority that will provide training for people’.
Helen also spoke warmly of the Bishop Auckland constituency:
“It [Bishop Auckland] is an extremely nice to spend Christmas, whether that involves joining in with traditional carols played by brass bands at one end of the constituency, or going for walks in an area of outstanding beauty at the other’.
