Working Hard for all in Bishop Auckland

Helen’s response to Remploy plan

Following today’s announcement by Remploy that a consultation will begin on its proposals to close 32 factories, Helen has made a statement.

She said, “It is bitterly disappointing that Remploy is proposing to close the plant in Spennymoor, and also the factories in Stockton and Hartlepool.

“The company is promising that there will be no compulsory redundancies and factories will only close if appropriate alternatives can be found. But it is difficult to see how they can find suitable work for several hundred people in the same travel-to-work area.

“I have been working closely with the trade unions at national and local level and will continue to press Ministers to put in the resources to safeguard these jobs.”
