HELEN PRAISED FOR ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN
Helen has been named Parliamentarian of the Month by Brake, the national road safety charity.
This award comes as a result of Helen’s long-running campaign to improve safety on the roads across the Bishop Auckland constituency.
Brake particularly emphasised Helen’s recent efforts to persuade Durham County Council to introduce a zebra crossing outside Cockfield Primary School, and to reduce the speed limit through the village of Evenwood Gate.
Helen said:
“I am absolutely delighted to win this award. I believe that when designing roads and deciding on speed limits, we should take account of the needs of all road users.
I am particularly concerned about the safety of children, who I believe should be able to walk and play outside in safety.
I very much hope, therefore, that Durham County Council will take strong action to ensure road safety at Evenwood Gate and Cockfield Primary School, and that everyone will support Brake’s Road Safety Week from 5-11 November”.
