Government increase disability funding in Durham

Government funding for the Disability Facilities Grant Programme (DFGP) – which helps 40,000 disabled people to stay in their home – will go up by 11% in Co. Durham in the new financial year.

DFGP helps disabled and older people to adapt their homes through facilities such as stair lifts, easy access showers, home extensions etc.

Nationally, there will be a 7% increase Government funding for DFGP in 2010/11, but in Durham it will higher, taking overall DFGP funding in Durham to £1.85 million.

Helen Goodman welcomed the announcement, saying:

“This extra investment is excellent news for disabled people in our local area.

The Government has a strong record of supporting disabled people – we have more than trebled DFGP funding in recent years – and I am proud that even in the current economic climate we are continuing to support those who need it most.”
