ELECTROLUX SPENNYMOOR TO CLOSE IN 2008
Helen has expressed her disappointment at the news that the Electrolux cooker factory in Spennymoor is to close at the end of 2008.
Helen said:
“This news is extremely regrettable for all the people who work in the Spennymoor factory.
I was particularly surprised by this decision, as I opened a new production line at this factory only two-and-a-half years ago, and I know how much effort has gone in to trying to make this a success.
Because the closure is to be phased over twelve months there should be time for to find other jobs and to get on to good training courses.
Within the past month I have talked to people in the local engineering and chemical industry, and they have told me that all there are jobs for people with the right skills.
The fact is that unemployment in the Bishop Auckland constituency is now half what it was ten years ago , so I am hopeful that alternative employment can be found in the area, and that Spennymoor can overcome this disappointment.
