Helen is holding a Climate Change Fair at Barnard Castle Methodist Church from 11am to 3pm on Saturday May 16th.
The event will enable local companies and organisations to showcase their environmentally friendly products, technology and services. There will music and food throughout the afternoon, and fun activities for children and adults including the making of an ARK as part of Operation Noah; an international campaign to promote awareness of climate change.
The event will be opened with a performance by the local theatre group Turrets, and there will also be an opportunity to ask Helen about government policy and local strategies to promote greener living.
Helen said:
“The current economic climate is tough but it is important that we do not lose the momentum behind our push for a sustainable future. Climate change still represents one of the biggest challenges that the next generation will face.
“It is essential that whilst we place pressure on the government to continue to make Britain greener, cleaner and less polluting that we also work together at a local level to make our communities aware of their responsibilities and most importantly how they can make lifestyle changes”.
Helen established a local climate change group in 2008 which has worked together to organise this event.
