2000 local residents sign Post Office petition
More than 2,000 local residents across the Bishop Auckland constituency have signed petitions expressing their concern about the proposed closure of 12 local post offices.
For the past six weeks people have had the opportunity to take part in a public consultation about the Post Office’s proposals, which would see post office closures across the constituency at branches such as Jubilee Fields, Leeholme, Toft Hill and Hutton Magna.
Helen has visited many of the post offices identified for closure, and has used the last six weeks to gauge the level of public opposition to these proposals.
Helen said:
“The fact that more than 2,000 people have signed these petitions shows just how important local postal services area.
I am really pleased that Post Office Ltd have consulted with local residents on this, and I hope they appreciate how strongly local people feel about the closure of so many post offices.
From past experience we have seen that public consultations tend to result in a number of branches being saved from closure, and, given the level of public support for our local post offices, I hope we will see this again”.
Helen will submit her final recommendations on these proposals to Post Office Ltd on March 26.
